Small is All
In April we had the honor to be visited by the @youngculturalstewards and their program *small is all* - a virtual apprenticeship program centering BIPOC youth from the South & West Sides of Chicago. *small is all* was inspired by the writings of emergent strategist and Black liberation doula @adriennemareebrown and Potawatomi Ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer. Building on years of racial and environmental justice programming, *small is all* supports young people in healing their relationships with one another and our more-than-human siblings.
We see stewardship of the land as a collective practice and we especially appreciate when we have youth dreaming, enjoying and stewarding at Wonderland. Our community project goes beyond our own community, which means working on relationships is at the center of what we do... And, as author adrienne maree brown reminds us, “small is all.” The small changes we make, the small interactions we have each day, can ripple out and have major impacts in the world around us.
And just like these small interactions have a big impact in Wonderland, we feel this also applies to the events that keep unfolding everywhere. It is so easy to feel overwhelmed by everything right now, but every little action counts! And we are so excited how the youth are leading the way! From the students encampments demanding their colleges to divest from genocide for Palestinian Liberation, to young people playing, learning and building relationships by stewarding the land, and we want to do our part in the creation of the conditions necessary for these seeds to germinate.
